Video IM: Who needs it?

I always thought that Video IM was purely for the voyeurs and just a feeling of being closer to the ones you care about.
My eyes were opened on Saturday, when I popped into this cyber cafe.

I saw this guy waving his arms around in front of a web-camera. First I thought it was someone who was just a first time video IM user.. when I realised the truth....
He was deaf and dumb!

He preferred to communicate with his friends using sign language, rather than words.

I never thought of this ... and realise how blind I was.

Maybe this is where we are going... to a stage where people will have a choice of communication channels, depending on which one they are most comfortable with.

Hmm...
